The Frame Bottle Opener is made of cast solid brass. The outside surface has a satin, brushed finish which contrasts beautifully with the rough texture inside. It's designed by Oji Masanori and manufactured at Futagami, one of Japan's oldest metal foundries.
As you use it over the years, it will gain a rich patina due to oxidization. A camel colored patina is expected to develop within 5 years, and a russet brown color patina is expected to develop at approximately 30 years. A green rust might also appear. This can be removed with a mixture of vinegar and salt.
Founded in 1897, the origins of Futagami were rooted in making brass artifacts in the Buddhist tradition. Nowadays the company offers a range of everyday homeware objects, and is focused on producing quality, handcrafted furnishings that last generations.
